About Grigory Leps

Grigory Leps (born Lepsveridze) is a Soviet and Russian singer, musician, composer, and producer. He was born on July 16, 1962, in Sochi, into a working-class family. From childhood he was drawn to music: he graduated from music college as a percussionist, and after army service played in rock bands and performed in restaurants. The stage name Leps is a shortened form of Lepsveridze, chosen for a more memorable sound.

His breakthrough came in 1995 with the album Khrani Vas Bog and the song Natali — the track became a radio hit and opened the door to the big stage. In the 2000s Leps cemented his status as one of the country’s leading voices: Ryumka vodki na stole, Ya tebe ne veryu (a duet with Irina Allegrova), Ona ne tvoya (with Stas Piekha), Vodopad, Vyuga, and Orly ili vorony. Over his career he has released more than twenty studio albums — from Na strunakh dozhdya and Labirint to Gangster No. 1, Podmena ponyatiy, and Zavtra.
