In March 2006 Gubenko left: touring had wrecked her health and the producers, she said, barely cared. The name Katya Chekhova was put on Elena Khryashcheva from Klimovsk — violin, choir, land-survey university, ex-Bikini — while Katya became First, cut Moyo nebo and by 2008 was already appearing in interviews as Medvedeva. Khryashcheva left in December 2008, the project shut with Posledniy albom; in January 2011 they brought the first singer back. Daughter Vera was born in December 2015; in 2016 Katya walked again, in June 2017 she changed her mind. She is now Ekaterina Mukina, second marriage, husband kept off posters, daughter almost unseen — only drawings for dad. The childhood dream she still names: an animal shelter.
Do not confuse the project with the writer Chekhov, with solo Katya First, or with the second “Katya” Khryashcheva: one storefront, the voice on the 2000s hits is Gubenko. Supergeroi (2021) she called a manifesto for a rave generation whose clubs became hookah bars while the ravers’ children finish school. Nostalgia discos of the 2000s still tour her through cities she visited in 2005 without a face.
