Quanysh means “joy.” The surname Kalbay next to Shamshi Kaldayakov sounds almost like a relative of “An aga,” though this is another person and another street. I remembered the card because of that trap: a festive name, and songs about a mother, a capital, and “be happy,” with no long poster. On ToneMusicVibe he stands in Kazakh songs as fresh pop that has not grown a legend yet and already holds a showcase slot.
Do not mix him with composer Quanysh Qurmanbayev from Turkistan (wife Qarlygash, a studio in Kaskelen). Do not mix him with the duet “Quanysh and Qarlygash.” Do not hang Qalibek Quanyshbayev here. Passport, city, wife, children are not in open sources for Kalbay — and we do not invent them. What is known sits in About the artist. Here — how to walk five singles without waiting for “the hit of the decade.”
Mother first, happiness in the name
I always start with “Anashym.” A tender “mom,” the way you call her at home, not the way a form writes it. Then “Astana” — the capital as a place you want, not a line on a form. “Baqytty bol” — a wish people shout at a toi to those leaving and those staying. “Baqyt kilti” — a key to the same happiness, as if the joy sewn into the name demanded its own song. “Zhanarym” — eyes as endearment, “my light.” In eighteen days of August–September 2026 he walked mother, city, wish, key, and glance. Not an interview. A catalog where family lives in titles.
I do not hear this as “a young voice without a biography” with pity. I hear a man who started with his mother, not with a clip about himself.
Why the card is still needed
Because Kazakh pop in a catalog should not rest on three familiar surnames. You also need entries like this: five songs you can play tonight without googling “who is this anyway.” If the voice is yours, you will return. If not, you close it honestly without an hour of someone else’s back catalog.
He is not among the folk composers on the showcase. He is not the Quanysh who has arranged “Tolganai” for fifteen years. Mixing Kalbay and Kaldayakov is hearing “My Kazakhstan” instead of five fresh singles.
A route without waiting for a hit
Do not wait for a chorus “everyone already knows.” It is not in collective memory yet — that is fine. Three songs: mother, Astana, the key. If after “Anashym” it is warm — stay. If you want a toi and a red dress — go to Temirkhan Sattar or the Kazakh collection. Kalbay is softer than a hall: more a room than a toi.
The player does not reset when you move. You can open romantic or love and come back without losing “Zhanarym.”
When this is not your evening
If you came for a dombra and an epic — wrong room. If you came for a club hit — also. If you came for Qanat Umbetov’s sadness — nearby, but a different character: joy is in Quanysh’s name, and the songs pull that way even when the words are about a mother. Mixing them in one queue is fine only if you want the contrast. I usually do not.
Tabs: Foreign. Not Russian. Not Ukrainian. Kazakh scene.
If the joy lands
